How it all began.
A LOVE OF BREAD MAKING
Charlie was born from a love of bread making. During lockdown, co-founder Tara set out to find the perfect bread oven and discovered the commercial charcoal ovens used in professional kitchens. After getting one, the results were incredible—the crust and crumb were spot-on. Then, curiosity took over. We threw in some seabream, mussels, and prawns, and the flavours transported us straight to a Greek seaside taverna. The smoky depth, the ease of use, and the restaurant-quality results blew us away.
That’s when we realised—Why wasn’t this professional quality of oven available for home cooking? More than just a BBQ, it’s an all-in-one charcoal oven, pizza oven, smoker, grill, and more, designed for how we want to cook outdoors today. No more battling unpredictable results or hovering over smoke—just effortless, flavour-packed cooking, whatever the season.
What inspired the design look?
Before lockdown we redesigned our garden—a beautiful dining area, a fire pit, and lush planting. But where to put the BBQ? It didn’t fit the space, so we hid it behind a bush. That’s why we designed Charlie to be a statement piece, not an eyesore.
With its sleek form and a stunning colour palette to complement any outdoor space, Charlie is a thing of beauty—built to be displayed, admired, and enjoyed. Handmade in Britain with professional-grade materials, it’s not just functional, it’s built to last, making outdoor cooking as easy and enjoyable as the food and company it brings.

Skilled craftspeople meticulously shape and weld each oven for a precise, airtight finish. We use solid stainless steel for all hardware, ensuring durability, while the hand-applied, powder coating adds the perfect final touch. Why call it Charlie?
We get this question a lot—where did the name come from? We wanted something full of personality, a name that could suit anyone. Charlie just felt right. It nods to charcoal and charring, plus Tara’s sister is Charlotte—so there’s a family connection too! And honestly, we’ve never met a Charlie we didn’t like.
We officially named our company The Cheeky Charlie Oven Company Ltd.—because, well, we like to have a bit of fun. And trust us, we’ve got some cheeky plans in store for the future—stay tuned!
