“I saw Charlie first time in a showroom display window. I was intrigued and rang the company to find out what it was all about. I went back to see it in person in the Ideal Home Show. I bought one and I’ve never looked back.

I retired a few years ago. I’ve always loved food and gardening, and I grow all my own vegetables. Charlie has changed the way I cook and changed the way my family eats. It gives us restaurant quality food, but it shop prices. And it’s always a point of discussion for everyone who comes round. First of all, “What’s that?”, and then once they know what it is and have tried it, it’s, “Cook some food in the Charlie”.

I spent the first two months with the oven experimenting: baking cakes, smoking, cooking pizzas, baking bread, and doing big dishes like lasagnas. Then my daughter said that looks brilliant, why not put it on social media? And she did a TikTok video for me. Within the first two hours I had 2,000 views. Then my daughter taught me how to do TikTok properly, how to edit and so on. So, I created the “Fire Cooking Chris” handle, cooking all sorts of different stuff and posting twice a week, and it’s now grown so that I’ve got 85,000 followers!

The best thing we ever did for it was a charity night for Dream Flight, the charity my wife works with. In one evening, we cooked 125 pizzas in Charlie, at a rate of 25 an hour. Nothing else could have done that, and we raised £3,000. Charlie just kept pumping them out, and everybody who came to get one stayed to enjoy their pizza and a drink together.”

“Without wishing to blow my own trumpet too much, I’ve always been an accomplished outdoor cook. I’ve had every possible piece of equipment from smokers. to built-in pizza ovens, to gas planchas, to eggs. But within two weeks of getting the Charlie, every other piece of kit had gone. Sold!

What’s so special about it? Number one is ease of use and temperature control. Number two is versatility. Number three, you can just leave it to get on with it. The very first thing I did when I got the Charlie was to test it by baking a loaf of bread. I’ve got a professional baking oven as well; and I had enough dough for two malted seeded loaves. I did one in the Charlie and one in the professional baking oven. The Charlie loaf was every bit as good as the professional oven loaf, and with a very slight smoky tinge to it, which was rather nice.

The Charlie now does absolutely everything. The family love everything that comes out of it. For slow cooking, it works as well as a slow cooker. For pizzas it works even better than a pizza oven, because it’s basically foolproof, and involves almost no effort. Getting a great pizza in Charlie is a no brainer. You just know it’s going to be perfect. For smoking, just chuck in a piece of apple wood. It’s just as good as a pellet smoker and much more controllable.

The final thing about it is that it is made so well. You can just feel the engineering. No compromise at all”.
